Libya Flood Response

Your generous donation will provide urgent medical supplies and equipment to help thousands of people of Libya affected by devastating flooding.

On Sunday, September 10, Tropical Storm Daniel caused the deadliest flooding in Libya in more than a century. The storm’s strong winds and heavy rainfall caused the collapse of dams and subsequent catastrophic flooding which destroyed homes, hospitals, and roads and brought down power lines. As of September 18, the death toll is approaching 4,000 people and 9,000 more are missing.

Many hospitals are overwhelmed by the number of people seeking treatment for their injuries from the flooding and at the same time, lack the supplies and equipment necessary to treat them.

WHO is responding to the flooding by activating two emergency operations centers, distributing emergency supplies like critical medicines and surgical kits where they are needed most. WHO Field Coordinators have been deployed in the three most affected areas to support healthcare teams to prevent deadly waterborne diseases like typhoid and cholera. WHO is coordinating its response with its partners and health authorities in Libya.

Your donation will provide urgent medical care for the people of Libya affected by these devastating floods.
